A Strategy to Strengthen the Gender-Based Violence Workforce in Canada
The Labrador West Status of Women Council was proud to take part in a national social media campaign led by the Ending Sexual Violence Association of Canada, Stronger Workers, Stronger Survivors.
The campaign highlights the intense and often challenging work happening across the gender-based violence sector, while bringing attention to the barriers workers face - including limited funding, burnout, high workloads, and the ongoing need for sustainable support.

We’re proud to be part of the Newfoundland and Labrador Anti-Poverty Coalition and to endorse its shared priorities for change. Through collaboration across sectors and continued community outreach, four key areas have emerged as priorities for addressing poverty in our province - from reducing immediate hardship to tackling the structural conditions that create and sustain poverty, while strengthening accountability for lasting change.
Canadian Research Institution for the Advancement of Women (CRIAW), Joint Statement on WAGE’s Budget
A joint letter to the Prime Minister calls on the federal government to reverse proposed 80% budget cuts to Women and Gender Equality (WAGE). The letter highlights that such reductions would devastate essential programs, undermine gender equity, and harm women, gender-diverse, and marginalized communities across Canada.

Our Executive Director attended a Co-Operative Housing information session hosted by Municipalities Newfoundland and Labrador, Newfoundland and Labrador Federation of Co-operatives, and Co-operative Housing Association of Newfoundland and Labrador (CHANAL). The session focused on exploring co-operative housing models, community-led housing solutions, and opportunities to support accessible and affordable housing initiatives in our community.
Community Advisory Panel
Our Executive Director participates in quarterly Community Advisory Panel meetings as part of our ongoing commitment to advocacy and collaboration. These meetings bring together community partners to share insights, identify emerging needs, and strengthen coordinated responses to local issues. Through this work, we continue to ensure the voices and experiences of those we support are represented in broader community planning and decision-making.
Newfoundland & Labrador Anti-Poverty Coalition (NLAPC) - Poverty Reduction and Prevention Strategy Written Submission
We are proud to be a part of the Provincial Action Network on the Status of Women in calling for the Government of Newfoundland and Labrador to declare intimate partner violence (IPV) an epidemic and to establish a provincial GBV task force. Addressing this crisis requires immediate, coordinated action and sustained investment in prevention, protection, and survivor support.
