Dr. Gurinder Kaur Ahluwalia
Board Director
Dr. Gurinder Ahluwalia (PhD Physics) is currently a general board member at the LWSW center. She has been an active board member since November 2023, the vice-chair of the Board in May 2024 and thereafter, the interim chair starting June 12, 2024, till the end of February 2025. With a wealth of experience in helping and educating women across the globe, Dr. Gurinder brings expertise in project management and grants applications, with certification in Managing Project Risks and Changes, Business Model Innovation, Tackling the Growing Mental Health Concerns, Effective Problem Solving, Strategic Business Management-Microeconomics, Fashion as Design, Graphic Design, Post Secondary Teaching, Modern Art & Contemporary Design, and Decision Making among others. She brings extensive experience of independently organizing events at the international and national level to the board, helping to guide and shape the direction of the organization.
In their professional career, Dr. Gurinder is a lead Physics instructor at College of the North Atlantic (CNA), Labrador West Campus for the last over 17 years. Dr. Gurinder is an educator, science communicator, author, artist, freelance researcher and an active sports person. She has been leading research projects as visiting professor at some of the most reputed institutions across the globe to include Institute for Molecular science, University of Tokyo and Osaka City University in Japan, University of Palermo, Italy, University of Western Ontario, Canada and University of Delhi and Guru Nanak Dev Universities in India. She is an active advocate for STEAM (Science, Technology, Engineering, Art, Math) among communities across Canada. She is the founding member of Science Rendezvous (SR) in Labrador west and as the site chair, organizes the Science Rendezvous events and conducts STEAM workshops in the region since 2018. She is a recipient of the Japanese Society for Promotion of Science award and has recently steered the SR event at Labrador West to receive the SR Community Champions award for the event in May 2024. She established the first research lab in Labrador West and has authored a book on Applications of Chalcogenides, in addition to over 82 research papers published in journals of international repute. She has frequently presented her research investigations at international conferences across the globe which took her to places such as UK, USA, Romania, Japan, Italy, Brazil and China and several provinces within Canada.
Dr. Gurinder is an active member of several International and National organizations to include Canadian Association of Physicists, National Science Communications team in Canada, Steering committee member - Science Rendezvous, Science & Technology Awareness Network Communications committee (STAN), Chalcogenides Forum, American Ceramic Society, Science Writer’s and Communicators of Canada and Life member- Semiconductor Society of India. On the non-academic front she pursues hobbies, such as, sports, music, and visual arts. Prior to coming to Canada, she organized Indo-Japanese music concerts at the University and colleges in India.
She is now committed to continuing her work to help other women reach their potential.
