Nicole Young is the Capacity Building Coordinator with the Labrador West Status of Women Council and a Registered Social Worker who earned her degree from Dalhousie University. With more than 15 years of experience in social work, leadership, and community development, Nicole is dedicated to strengthening organizations, building collaborative partnerships, and creating sustainable systems that improve the lives of individuals and families across Labrador.
Prior to joining the Labrador West Status of Women Council, Nicole served as Executive Director of Hope Haven for over 12 years, providing strategic leadership to a 24-hour crisis shelter supporting women and children experiencing violence and abuse. Throughout her career, she has worked extensively in the areas of mental health, addictions, youth outreach, and crisis intervention, bringing a trauma-informed and strengths-based approach to every role. Today, she focuses on organizational capacity-building initiatives focused on governance, policy development, succession planning, Volunteer strategies, communication and organizational sustainability, helping ensure the Labrador West Status of Women remains well-positioned to serve the community for years to come.
Nicole has contributed her knowledge and leadership through service on numerous boards and committees, including MADD, the Labrador West Status of Women Council, the Transition House Association of Newfoundland and Labrador, the Labrador Housing and Homelessness Coalition, Violence Prevention Labrador, and the Community Advisory Panel. She is a passionate advocate for violence prevention, accessibility, community development, gender equity, and mental health promotion, and is committed to building stronger, more inclusive communities through collaboration, education, and meaningful social change.
