Learning, Connecting, and Empowering: A Week of Training and Advocacy in St. John’s

This past week, our team had the opportunity to travel to St. John’s for a meaningful and inspiring few days of learning, connecting, and building capacity to better support our community.

Kim (Executive Director), Melissa (Peer Support Worker), and Val (Capacity Building Coordinator) attended facilitation training for Empowering Ourselves—a psychoeducational support group designed specifically for women and gender-diverse people who have experienced intimate partner violence (IPV).

The training was delivered by the incredible team at the St. John’s Status of Women Council, and it was a true pleasure to learn from their expertise, compassion, and commitment to trauma-informed care. While the subject matter can be heavy, it was made lighter by the warmth, wisdom, and solidarity of everyone in the room. Being surrounded by so many passionate folks working toward the same vision of safety, dignity, and empowerment for women and gender-diverse people was incredibly energizing.

While in town, we also had the privilege of attending the Annual General Meeting of the Provincial Action Network on the Status of Women (PANSOW). It was another powerful reminder of the leadership and advocacy happening across our province—and how connected our struggles and our strengths truly are.

We’re deeply grateful to everyone who welcomed us, taught us, and shared space with us this week. We’re heading back to Labrador City feeling renewed and ready to bring what we’ve learned into our local work.

Thank you to the St. John’s Status of Women and PANSOW for all that you do—we look forward to growing this work together.
